Prada’s beach trends for Spring/Summer 2010

Monday, February 22, 2010 posted by Brooke 9:18 am

It might be a little early for some people to start thinking about the sunny (fingers crossed!) summer season, but for fashionistas; wardrobe planning for spring/summer 2010 is already well underway.

For style ideas and hints on high-fashion trends for the season, look no further than Miuccia Prada’s 2010 Resort collection.

The beach-themed catwalk show featured some chic, easy-to-wear dresses themed with the aqua, coral and sand colours of Miami Beach, and these were complimented and contrasted with bold , detailed prints.

Wear over short skirts or bikinis, but don’t be afraid to throw in a colourful varsity shirt or a flower-adorned pair of wedges or sandals.

New York Fashion Week shows its masculine side

At New York Fashion week recently, the strongest influence in most collections was menswear. The masculine style seems to be taking over fashion trends, with ‘boyfriend’ jeans, jackets and masculine tailoring. Here are a couple of the highlights:

• Victoria Beckham – It seems that Posh Spice has finally found her talent, as she showcased 26 dresses from her collection in an intimate preview. As well as the sleek tailoring, drapery and textured fabrics, there was also a strong 1940s detective and Hollywood femme fatale theme in the strong, masculine trench-style pieces.

• Diane von Furstenberg – This established designer unleashed her masculine side in her much-anticipated catwalk show. A key theme was men’s jackets paired with feminine flowery dresses to signify both strength and sex appeal.

Burberry’s first 3D catwalk show at London Fashion Week

Just as James Cameron’s record-breaking film ‘Avatar’ and a number of recent Sky Sports football matches were all shown in 3D, fashion shows are also set to be jumping on the 3D bandwagon thanks to trend-setters Burberry. Ahead of the upcoming London Fashion Week starting on February 19th, Burberry has announced that its epic catwalk show will be broadcast in 3D.

After recent figures demonstrated that Burberry’s profits amounted to £380 million in the last three months of 2009, it seems like the luxury designer brand is celebrating with this latest extravagant idea. One thing’s for sure though – it’s set to be an amazing show.

Sportswear

Following my previous post about looking out for some nice new swimwear, I have started my training so that I look my very best while I am practically half naked on an exotic beach. I feel it is necessary to look the part whilst I am slogging away at the gym on my treadmill. I actually struggle to buy gym clothes as I am not one of these people who is comfortable wearing lycra shorts and tight tops I prefer baggy clothes with which I feel comfortable in and I able to move in! There is lots of variety out there, it is simply about choosing items which suit your personal taste. look online or on the high street for some great deals.

Swim Wear

Now you might think I am a little bit crazy, but in my opinion in January it is nice to start looking forward to booking a holiday. I am sure you would all agree we have had enough snow this month to last us a life time! A sunshine break is exactly what the doctor ordered, which means new swim wear is essential. Yes I am sure everyone has a bikini that they could use, but there are so many new and vibrant styles and colours which come out each year, I am keen to keep up with the trends. You never know, new trends might really flatter your figure and you would feel terrible if you missed out! Getting looking now!

Getting ready for Spring!

Saturday, January 16, 2010 posted by Brooke 1:30 pm

I am looking ahead to the spring right now and it appears everyone is doing the same! Personally I am one of these people who prefers to wear lighter colours, and unfortunately my winter wardrobe is full of dark browns and blacks, so it is great to take the opportunity in spring and summer to really brighten things up. Obviously the weather it is a little too cool at present to be getting out the summer dresses, but there are ways of introducing some of your spring wardrobe, a little early. For example you can wear summer dresses over leggings. It is time to experiment and see what suits you!

Leather jackets.

These are a must at the moment and there has never been a better time to buy one than in the January sales! No matter what style you are into I am confident that you will find one you really like! My boyfriend bought me one for Christmas and I have had loads of compliments off friends and family. They are useful to throw on over a jumper and a pair of leggings, if you do not want to put on a large jacket or coat. They are incredibly stylish and the celebrities have even been wearing them over their party dresses on the red carpet! Get yours quick!

Cheryl Cole Best Dressed in 2009

Wednesday, December 30, 2009 posted by Brooke 9:28 am

Pop star and X Factor judge Cheryl Cole has topped a poll of the world’s best dressed women which was conducted by Glamour magazine earlier this year. She narrowly beat supermodel Kate Moss who came in second.

The past 12 months have been great for Cheryl who has gained huge popularity since appearing as a judge on popular reality show ‘The X Factor’. Her style is often talked about and many women admit to being more than a bit envious of her style and good looks. Cheryl is always beautifully dressed and looks great even when just wearing jeans and a shirt to go out shopping. She is always well groomed and chooses her clothing carefully to maintain a glossy and glamorous image.

Cheryl’s huge rise to popularity has seen her knock ultra stylish Kate Moss from the top spot and has even knocked immaculately dressed posh spice down to third place, which we’re sure she’s pleased to hear. Other stars in the top ten include Alexa Chung, Blake Lively and Katy Perry making for a very eclectic top ten.

Zip it up!

Thursday, December 24, 2009 posted by Andy 9:23 am

That’s right, zips are once again in fashion. Fashion royalty from Victoria Beckham to Kate Moss and Paris Hilton are all big fans of the zip. Zips can instantly bring a tougher, rockier edge to even the most feminine of outfits. Anne Hathaway is one celebrity who manages to look feminine and sexy due to the addition of a zip to her outfit. At a recent photo shoot she looked elegant and sexy in a white layered skirt and black blouse which was made all the more edgy by the addition of a silver zip running the length of it.

Anne is not the only star to look utterly sensational in zip fashion. Ugly Betty star Becki Newton positively smouldered in a sexy black pencil skirt which had a zip up the entire length from waist to knee. Zips look particularly good when they are contrasted with soft and colourful feminine fabrics. Dresses which feature zips are very popular with celebrities at the moment and help to give a more rock chick look to a party dress. If you want a really hard edged look, then a silver zip on a black outfit makes an instant impact which can’t be ignored.

How to wear stripes

Saturday, December 12, 2009 posted by Brooke 9:11 am

One of the most timeless trends is undoubtedly stripes. In and out of fashion over the years stripes have always played a big part in winter wardrobes. Stripes are a great addition to any wardrobe and even a few key pieces can go a long way to updating your wardrobe and giving it a fresh new look. If you get the stripe look right, it will enhance your figure, give you a beautiful shape and a chic but laid back look.

Many of the top designers have been mixing and matching their stripes on the catwalk, mixing thick wide stripes with thin ones making for a chic Parisian look. The more adventurous designers have opted for the stark contrast created when mixing stripes with floral pieces, for a youthful and fun look. These looks are perfect for under 25s, but, for those of us over 25, it is probably a good idea to stick to one striped item teamed with a single block of colour, for instance, a black and white striped top with black jeans, would create a cool, casual look. If you want to appear taller vertical stripes are a must giving the impression of height and boyish figures would benefit from horizontal stripes which give the illusion of a fuller figure.

Stripes are a fun trend which can create many looks, whether it is a chic Parisian look you desire or a fun and whacky party outfit, stripes can do the trick. However you decide to wear them you will be bang on trend this winter.
